Question

QB Desktop Database Manager can't browse to folder (stuck on Desktop folder)

I'm running in the a strange issue where QB Desktop Database Manager refuses to let me browse to anywhere other the user's Desktop folder.

QuickBooks file tool says Multi-User access needs to be configure, which I've already done (also tried stop hosting multi-use access and re-enabled it, service is running). I can launch the DB manager from the start menu, but again, no browsing out side of the Desktop folder...

Uninstalling 2021 and repair installing 2023 has failed to resolve anything.

Back story is that the user installed v2023 in addition to already running 2021, and try who knows what all before they decided to get me involved... and that has made what would have been a simple version upgrade a complete mystery.

Hello there, @bowtiestudio. I appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps and for sharing the details of how this matter with the Database Server Manager started.

Let's perform some other recommended troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue with the Database Server Manager in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Before we start, I'd like to verify if you've already scanned your company files after you install the Database Server Manager. If you haven't already, I encourage you to do so. This way, you can access your company files from other computers on your network. To do this, here's how:

  1. On your server computer (the one that hosts your company files), open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Enter “Database” into the search and open QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  3. Go to the Scan Folders tab.
  4. Select Browse. Then select the folders that hold your company files (QBW).
  5. Select OK when you're finished.
  6. When you’re ready, select Start Scan.

Once you're done, you'll have to monitor your drives and manage the Database Server Manager. For the complete guide, please refer to this article starting with Step 2Use QuickBooks Database Server Manager.

In case the issue continues, I recommend doing a clean install with your QBDT (2023) software. This renames your QuickBooks folders to fix company file issues. Then after doing so, install and set up QBDT on a server so computers on your network can access your company files.

Please don't hesitate to comment if you have other concerns about the Database Server Manager in QBDT. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @bowtiestudio.
