REALLY MESSED UP

My computer was running SLOOOOW this morning.  So I “cleaned it up a bit.”  Now my Quickbooks Desktop Pro2018 doesn’t work.  To make matters worse I didn’t ”Repair” the program the way you are supposed to.  I got so far down the rabbit hole I deleted files instead of uninstalling.  YUP.  I did that.  I have my original disk to install the program.  But it is telling me I have a version already installed on my computer - probably because I did NOTHING correctly so far.  And I don’t know what to do to get out of this mess.

I sure hope there is a lifeline out there to help me!

Thanks you.

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2019 to isolate the issue. If your file is not corrupted, you should be able to open it using that version.

One possible reason your QuickBooks Desktop might be acting up is that essential files required to run it properly may have been deleted. To resolve this, you can download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and run Quick Fix my Program. The Quick Fix will close any background processes QuickBooks uses and perform a quick repair on the program.

Here's how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  2. Once installed, open the Tool Hub and select Program Problems.
  3. Choose Quick Fix my Program.
  4. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If the issue persists, follow the Solution 2 section in this article: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop. If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop.
