Question

Can subcontractor costs map to SA103F Box 18 for MTD Income Tax without the QuickBooks CIS module? We manage CIS outside QBO and they map to Box 17. Is this expected?

CIS is managed and submitted outside QuickBooks, so the CIS module isn't enabled. Subcontractor costs are recorded in a dedicated Cost of Sales account. Total expenses and taxable profit are correct, but all subcontractor costs appear in SA103F Box 17 and Box 18 remains £0. There doesn't appear to be any option to change the mapping.

To manually reallocate your subcontractor costs to Box 18 for your SA103F when filing, I recommend reaching out to your accountant to adjust them during submission, as QuickBooks Online requires the native CIS module to be enabled for automated mapping. Since CIS is managed outside QuickBooks, the software will automatically assign these expenses to Box 17, and there is no manual override option within the platform.

Your taxable profit and total expenses remain entirely accurate, as the costs are simply categorized under a different box on the form.
