Question

Hi there, trying to log mileage, I use a motorbike. It appears to be defaulting to 55p per mile allowance which is car or van, not the 24p bike. Help! How do I change it?

The 55p rate you are seeing is the standard rate for vehicles/cars. You need to change the vehicle type assigned to your profile or trips so QuickBooks applies the correct HMRC simplified expense rate.

Here's how to modify or add your motorbike:

  1. Go back to your Mileage page.
  2. Choose Manage vehicles and click My vehicle.
  3. Set the vehicle type specifically to Motorcycle. If prompted for tax information, ensure you choose the option to use the standard HMRC flat rate by selecting By business-use of vehicle.
  4. Turn on the Set as primary vehicle switch so your future trips default to this.
  5. Then click Save.

Once the vehicle is updated to a motorbike, QBO will automatically recalculate your business trips at the 24p rate.

If you have any questions about setting up this feature, please let me know. I'm here to ensure everything runs smoothly for you.
