Question

I am getting a useless warning when trying to file MTD. It says "something went wrong with your update". How do I find out what went wrong?

This error message can appear when your browser stores too much cached data. Use a private or incognito browser so QuickBooks can identify the specific cause of the filing error.

You can add Intuit as a trusted site if necessary. Refer to this article for guidance: Troubleshoot browser problems for QuickBooks Online and Intuit websites.

If the same error occurs, disconnect QuickBooks Online from HMRC and reconnect it to refresh the connection. You can follow the steps in this article to complete the process: Set up MTD (Making Tax Digital) for VAT in QuickBooks.

If you need further assistance resolving the error, I recommend reaching out to our Intuit Experts. They can provide additional guidance to help you complete your MTD filing.

After you resolve the error and confirm the filing issue, use this article as a checklist and troubleshooting reference: Fix Making Tax Digital (MTD) issues for VAT and Income Tax in QuickBooks.
