We have noticed that HMRC authorisation for some clients becomes disconnected when we change the Government Gateway credentials for another client. Could you please explain why this occurs and advise how we can prevent client authorisations from being disconnected when switching between different Government Gateway accounts?

When accountants or bookkeepers manage multiple clients, they link each client's Making Tax Digital (MTD) connection to a specific Government Gateway (GG) user ID, and QuickBooks stores an authorization token for each client.

To effectively manage multiple clients under MTD, use an Agent Services Account (ASA) specifically designed for accountants. These credentials facilitate the digital handshake with QuickBooks, allowing you to file on behalf of all your clients.

To prevent client authorizations from randomly dropping while switching accounts, it is recommended to use only the ASA credentials for connecting to and managing client MTD authorizations, rather than relying on individual GG logins.
