Question

I have a project with an assigned account. I set an hourly time cost and marked the hours as billable, but the costs are still always shown as 0.

Hello there, Matej.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! To resolve the issue with billable costs showing as $0 in QuickBooks Online (QBO), let's go through a few basic checks to ensure everything is set up correctly.

First, we need to ensure billable tracking is enabled:

  1. Go to Settings and click Account and Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Expense tab.
  3. Please ensure the following settings are enabled:
    • Track expenses and items by customer
    • Make expenses and items billable
  4. Click Done, then select Save to apply your changes.

Next, we should confirm that the Service Items have an Hourly Rate.

  1. Go to Sales, then choose Product and Services.
  2. Locate the service item used for billable time.
  3. Click Edit next to the service item.
  4. Fill out the Sales Price/Rate field with the billable hourly rate.
  5. Save the changes.

If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our customer support through call or chat. They have access to a screen-sharing tool that will help them identify the cause.
