Question

Need to have master admin rights assigned over to my account. I don't have access to the employee who currently has admin rights, and so we cannot get them to reassign.

Unfortunately, the person who set up our QuickBooks account (a past employee of our tax consultant), has passed away. We have tried to recover their credentials without luck. We are unable to reassign the Master admin rights to my account without intervention from Quickbooks.

You need Intuit approval to do so. Another option, purchase a 3rd party service to migrate your data to a new QBO account.

We’re very sorry to hear about the situation. Since the current primary admin is no longer available, you'll need to submit a request to the QuickBooks Account Protection team to transfer admin rights.

To become the new primary admin, you must prove that you own the business or have permission to assume this role. Please gather the required documents before starting the request form.

Once your documents are ready, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Business Change Request form.
  2. Select the company for which you are requesting primary admin access, and answer the questions in each dropdown menu.
  3. Click Continue and review your business and personal details.
  4. Verify that all information on the summary page is correct. You cannot make changes after this point.
  5. Upload the required documents and select Submit request. If you need more time to gather documents, you can close the form, and it will be saved as a draft for 30 days.

The Account Protection team will email you their decision from no_response@intuit.com. You'll either be made primary admin or told how to reapply.

If you have any further questions, please let us know. We're always here to help.
