Signing up for free trial does not require a credit card. It could be that the Buy Now option might have been selected. On the website, you can toggle between Free Trial or Buy Now.
You can check the subscription status by following these steps:
Clear the Gear icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
Under Your Company, click Account and Settings.
On the left menu, click Billing & Subscription.
Check the Subscription Status (Trial ends or Subscribed) beside QuickBooks.
Click Done.
For any additional questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us. Thanks.
I appreciate you for contacting our QuickBooks Online Customer Service Team to resolve the free trial issue.

This happened to me on the same day that enrolled in the trial. I guess I shouldn't have enter my credit card data but I don't know how I would have gotten around that step.
I wanted to take a peak at QuickBooks online vs Desktop- it's very different and I am glad that I got to see that before putting too much time and energy into making the transition. I guess that was worth the $20 but still feel like "free trial" should in fact be free. Especially because I signed up AND cancelled within hours!
