Question

In my QBO company settings, my Company address country shows Philippines and it appears to be locked. I am in the USA. How do I change it?

I am in Shelby, North Carolina (USA). In my QBO company settings, my Company address country shows “Philippines” (PHL) and it appears to be locked. I can edit the street/city/state/ZIP, but the Country dropdown will not let me change to United States. I also see a VAT question on the same page, which makes me think the file was created under the Philippines region by mistake.

Hey there, @sabrina-a-queen7.

How are you doing today? I hope all is well.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not allow you to change the country setting after your initial subscription is created, as the region dictates your tax, currency, and legal compliance rules. Because your account is locked to the Philippines, you'll need to cancel your current subscription and create a new US-based account.

If you have entered any data into the Philippines account that you need to keep, you'll need to export your lists and reports (such as Chart of Accounts, Customers, and Vendors) to Excel before closing the account, as direct database migrations across regions are not supported.

Once exported, you'll need to subscribe to a new US QBO account. Here's how:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks Country Selection Tool.
  2. Select the United States.
  3. Choose the subscription tier that best fits your business and click Buy Now or Free Trial.
  4. When prompted to create an Intuit account, you can sign in using your existing login credentials; it will simply add a new US company file to your profile.

After that it's time to cancel the Philippines account so you're not double charged for a subscription. Here's how:

  1. Log into the old Philippines QBO company.
  2. Go to the Gear icon > Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Billing & Subscription tab.
  4. Click Cancel next to your QuickBooks subscription.

That should do the trick. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns about this process. Have a good one, Shelby!
