Question

When I pull my General Ledger, it does not show the running total for the year on the right like it used to. How do I fix it to show me these amounts?

Hi, Andrea. The running total in your General Ledger (GL) is tied to the Balance column, and it can sometimes disappear if the report’s customization settings have been changed.

To bring it back, you’ll need to update your report settings. To do this, open your GL report and then click Customise in the upper-right corner. From there, go to the Columns section, and ensure the Balance column is selected.

It’s also a good idea to review your report period. The running balance works best when the report is set to a date range (such as This Year) rather than a single day, as it calculates totals across multiple transactions.

Once everything looks correct, click Save As (to save your customization), so you won't need to repeat these steps in the future.

After applying these changes, your running total column should appear on the right side of the report.
