Moving from quickbooks desktop 2015 to online, is it possible?

Hello everyone,

I was using QuickBooks 2015 Premier Desktop without any issues until my laptop unexpectedly stopped working. I have a full backup of my company file, but I’m unable to reinstall the original 2015 software on my new laptop.

I’m wondering what my options are for moving my business data from QuickBooks 2015 to a newer version of QuickBooks. Is it possible to upgrade or convert my backup file to a more current version?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello there, Nick. Yes, you can move your data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Since you can’t reinstall QBDT, you can install the 30-day trial version of QuickBooks Desktop 2021 to upgrade your backup file before transitioning to QBO. Please ensure your system meets the requirements for this version. (While this link is for the US version, the same principles apply to UK users.)

Once your backup is updated, you can use Movemybooks, a tool designed to convert and transfer your QBDT data directly into QBO. This tool ensures that your business data is migrated accurately while remaining MTD-compliant.

Where is your company located? UK or another country?

Do you have any multi currency transactions?
