Barcode scanner compatible with Warehouse Manager in QuickBooks Desktop mobile

We want to use Warehouse Manager in QuickBooks Desktop mobile however all of the supported devices from Zebra are either discontinued or at end of life. Is there an updated list of supported devices not including Android cell phones? Or can anyone make a recommendation of a type/model they are using?

Hi there, TracyC2.

Let me share what I know about barcode scanners.

Any barcode scanner is compatible with QuickBooks as long as it meets the following formats:

  • The scanner must supports EAN-13 (International Article Number, formerly European Article Number) and Code-128 barcodes
  • The scanner must produce a single carriage return at the end of the barcode.

Also, please take note that serial port scanners are NOT compatible with the Enterprise Barcode feature. These are the supported mobile barcode scanner devices and their model:

  • Zebra TC20
  • Zebra TC25
  • Zebra TC51
  • Zebra MC40 (discontinued by the manufacturer but still supported)

Here's an article for more information on how to set up the barcode scanner.

Unfortunately all of those Zebra models are either discontinued or end of life.  That is why I was asking about an updated list.  Or can we assume that the models they say they are being replaced by will also be supported devices?

I'll help with your question about barcode scanners, TracyC2.

For now, our engineers have not released an updated list of all compatible scanners. The available list that we have at the moment is the one that is shared in the first response.

There are ways of checking if a scanner is compatible with QuickBooks Enterprise. You just need to make sure to check the following details:

  • It supports EAN-13 (International Article Number, formerly European Article Number) and Code-128 barcodes
  • It produces a single carriage return at the end of the barcode.

Aside from that, we've also added 3 Bluetooth bar code scanners for the Advanced Inventory Pick/Receive functionality. More information about these scanners is discussed here: Bluetooth Scanners for Advanced Inventory.

Ah, the infamous device compatibility dance. I get it, keeping up with the latest lists feels like chasing your own tail, doesn't it? Relying soleley on zebra's lineup for QuickBooks warehouse needs... it's like trying to keep a leaking ship afloat. But hey, there’s a better way.

I was in your shoes during a recent project. We cracked this nut by shifting focus a bit. Instead of chasing specific models, why not look into flexible solutions? Like mobile automation tools that seamlessly integrate with QuickBooks. Let me tell ya, we used Cleverence, and it worked wonders. With its low-code flex, pretty much any compatible device fits right into the workflow without a hitch. It's a bit like everyone suddenly speaking the same language, even if you're steering clear of Android.

Look into options offering real-time integration, APIs, and offline capabilities. Saves a ton of headaches and future-proofs your setup in this fast-moving tech world. It can be tricky, sure. Always a chance you'll need to test more than once. Keep your options open, think toolbox, not just tools. Cheers!
