Question

Can product costs (materials, labor, etc.) be matched with products in QB Online? Or must one enter an aggregate cost for each product? Desktop used to allow a breakdown.

Also, is a QB Desktop Manufacturing or Accountant version still available?

Thanks for joining us here, PSDsns.

In QuickBooks Online, you cannot match or break down materials and labor within a single product item. The system is designed to manage inventory as a single unit. You must provide a total cost for each product.

Since you are using QBO Advanced, you can use the Bundle feature to see the cost breakdown. It is the only way to group different costs under one product name. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Products and services.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Then, select Service to create your "Labor" cost part. Enter the name and the cost, then click Save and close.
  4. After that, click New again and select Non-inventory to create your "Materials" cost part. Enter the name and the cost, then click Save and close.

After that, let's build by bundling it. Here's how:

  1. Click on New button.
  2. Select Bundle from the list of product types.
  3. Then, in the Name field, type the name of the actual product you are selling.
  4. Go to Product/Service table at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Select the Labor item you just made.
  6. Down in the second row, select the Materials item you just made.
  7. Finally, click Save and close.

On the other hand, while standard Pro/Premier including Manufacturing/Wholesale are no longer available for new users, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise which includes specialized Manufacturing and Accountant versions remains available. You can refer to these resources:

@PSDsns

You need a 3rd party manufacturing app to integrate with QB Online. Alternatively, you can purchase a new QB Desktop Enterprise Silver license at a competitive price from a reseller. Contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA directly via email for details.
