i am working to update our COA with account #s and adding, changing or making account inactive.  It will not allow me to add an account number for anything account that is connected to Payroll.  Is there a workaround for this?

Yes, there's a workaround. To add an account number to a payroll-mapped account, remove it from the Payroll Accounting Preferences first. Here’s how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Payroll settings.
  2. Go to the Payroll tab.
  3. Scroll down to Accounting and click the Pencil icon to edit.
  4. Review the mapped accounts, then choose a new account from the dropdown menu to replace the old one.
  5. Click Done.

After saving your changes, return to the Chart of Accounts page and enter the account number. Then, remap the account in Payroll Accounting Preferences.
