Desktop to Online Merge from Different Business

I bought an existing business. The old business was using quickbooks desktop and I am using quickbooks online. Is there a way I can merge all of the info from the old business to mine without replacing what I already have? Is there a third party software that can do this?

Welcome to the Community, KelseyBGS.

While there is a process to move your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online, this process overwrites data that is already in QuickBooks Online. This is why our article on the process recommends you move it to a newly created company within QuickBooks Online.

I can certainly understand how such an ability could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feedback while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon.
  2. Go to Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product(s) by reviewing Intuit's Product Update page.

As a workaround, you can consider importing data manually from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online:

You can also consider checking our QuickBooks App Store and QuickBooks Desktop Marketplace for apps which may be able to help you achieve what you're looking to accomplish.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

What do you mean with merge? Do you need to manage 2 company files in 1 QBO account or else?

I have info on quickbooks online already. I want to be able to add everything from the old business to that without replacing it.
