How can Quickbooks Online connect to my Cardmember services when the bank requests a security code which is sent to my phone?

Yes, most banks usually send the security codes to the phone number associated with your bank account, lexxa.

If you no longer have access to that phone number, I'd recommend reaching out to Cardmember Services support. They can assist you in updating your information.

After updating your information, go back to QuickBooks and try connecting your bank again. The security code should now be sent to the updated phone number.

Once the bank is successfully connected, 90 days worth of bank transactions will be downloaded and can be categorized into the appropriate accounts.

Thanks for the reply, James.

I am able to receive the code. The issue is that I don't know where to input the code to allow QBO to connect.

This is for a new credit card that I am trying to link. QBO must have reached the bank, because I received the code. But QBO just appears to time out with the connection to the bank and says to try again later. When I press the button that says 'Report Issue', I do get a response back from QBO saying that the issue is resolved, but the same thing happens on the next attempt.

A related question is: does this mean I need to be available with the code every time QBO tries to automatically update the account (assuming the link can be made in the first place)?

Thanks for any help.

We can perform basic troubleshooting steps to link your credit card in QuickBooks, Lexxa.

Let's begin by clearing the cache. This resolves issues such as page loading errors or formatting problems. If the issue persists, consider using a different supported browser.

Once it works, follow the steps below to connect your credit card account.

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Click Link account.
  3. Search for your bank by URL or name, or select from the list.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Sign in to your bank account in the pop-up window.
  6. Choose the account that you want to connect to and the dates to pull transactions from the dropdown. Then, click Next.
  7. Select the account type that matches your chart of accounts in QuickBooks from the Account type dropdown, then Next.
  8. In the Account Type dropdown, select either Bank or Credit Card. If you selected Bank Account, in Detail Type, select Savings or Checking.
  9. Name the account and select Save and Close.
  10. Map the bank account in the Existing accounts dropdown, then select Next.
  11. Select Connect, then select Done.

Regarding about whether a code is required each time QuickBooks Online automatically updates your account (assuming the link is successfully established).

If your account is already linked to QuickBooks Online, transactions are automatically downloaded without requiring a code. However, if you manually update the account, it depends on your bank provider, as some financial institutions may ask for a code. I recommend contacting your bank provider for guidance in managing this.

Once the transactions are downloaded, you can categorize and reconcile them to match your bank and credit card statements.
