Error 324 means QuickBooks Online can't find your account at your bank anymore, even though your bank account itself is probably still fine. The fix depends on what changed, so find the scenario below that matches what you're seeing and follow those steps.

Your bank updated your account details

When your bank issues a new account number or replacement card, QuickBooks Online can no longer match the account on file. That's what triggers Error 324.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  3. Find the account showing Error 324 and select Fix now.
  4. Sign in with your current bank credentials.
  5. When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All.
  6. Map the updated account to your existing QuickBooks account, then complete the connection.

You don't need to disconnect the account first. QuickBooks keeps your transaction history and categorization rules in place while it remaps the details.

If that doesn't work, or your updated account isn't showing up:

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Find the affected account, select Fix now, then select Disconnect.
  3. Confirm the disconnection.
  4. Select Add Account, search for your bank, and sign in with your current credentials.
  5. Select your updated account.

When you reconnect, map the new account to your existing QuickBooks account instead of creating a new one. This keeps your transaction history intact and avoids duplicate accounts.

Your account was closed or suspended

Once your bank closes or suspends an account, it stops sharing that account's data with QuickBooks. The account can't be reconnected, only disconnected. Before you disconnect, make sure any pending transactions from the account have already been reviewed and posted in QuickBooks.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  3. Find the account showing Error 324 and select Fix now. You'll be taken to Manage Connections.
  4. Select the affected account and select Disconnect.
  5. Confirm the disconnection.

Your bank feed for this account will be removed and the error will clear. No further transactions will sync in for this account.

Replacing it with a new account:

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account.
  3. Search for your bank and sign in with your current credentials.
  4. Select your new account, then complete the setup.

Disconnect the closed account before adding the new one. Otherwise, QuickBooks shows an error saying the account is already connected.

You reconnected with different bank login credentials

If you reconnect using a different login than the one you originally set up, like a spouse's login or a secondary account, QuickBooks can't match your original accounts to the new credentials.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Manage Connections.
  3. Find any accounts with mismatched or duplicate connections and disconnect them.
  4. Reconnect using the original login, the same one used when the connection was first set up.
  5. Select the correct accounts, then complete the connection.

Having one person handle all bank connection setup and maintenance for your company helps prevent this from happening again.

You selected different accounts when reconnecting

Every time you reauthorize a bank connection, your bank asks which accounts to share. Selecting fewer accounts than you originally chose removes authorization for the ones left out, which triggers Error 324 for those accounts.

  1. Sign in to the QuickBooks company showing Error 324.
  2. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  3. Select Link account, search for your bank, and sign in.
  4. When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All. This doesn't add every account to your books, it just sets up a secure connection.
  5. On the next screen, select only the accounts you actually want to use in this company, then complete the connection.

Selecting All Accounts or Consent All keeps your existing connections intact. You can still choose which accounts appear in QuickBooks on the next screen.

You use the same bank login for multiple QuickBooks companies

Your bank only remembers your most recent account selection. If multiple QuickBooks companies share one bank login, reconnecting one company can overwrite the account selection for the others, so fixing one company can just move the error to another.

Sign in to the QuickBooks company showing Error 324.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account, search for your bank, and sign in.
  3. When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All.
  4. Select only the accounts you want in this company, then complete the connection.
  5. Switch to your other QuickBooks companies and refresh their bank feeds. Most connections restore automatically.
  6. If Error 324 still shows up in another company, repeat these steps there.

Selecting specific accounts instead of All Accounts or Consent All disconnects your other companies. A permanent fix for this is in the works.

A couple of habits that help avoid this error altogether

  • Have one person handle all bank connection setup and maintenance for your company.
  • Always select All Accounts (or Consent All, depending on how your bank phrases it) when reconnecting, even for accounts you don't currently use in QuickBooks.

Still stuck?

Reach out to QuickBooks support, and have this on hand so they can dig in faster:

  • The name of your bank and the account type
  • Whether you manage more than one QuickBooks company with the same bank login
  • Anything that recently changed at your bank, like a new card or a renamed account
  • Whether more than one person manages your bank connections

Hi Khemaienterprises,

Error 324 occurs when QuickBooks is unable to locate or access the bank account or credit card account that you are trying to connect or sync with. This error can be caused by various issues, including incorrect login credentials, changes in your bank's website, or issues on the bank's end.

 This may be because:

  • Your bank or credit card company has modified the account or shifted it to a different server.
  • You've updated the account name or other information on your bank or credit card company's website.
  • Your bank or credit card company has provided a new account or credit card.
  • You've terminated your bank or credit card account.
  • You possess multiple accounts with the same name at the bank.
