I have used classes before. How do tags work? I want to track our budget's income and expenses. And track each committee's income and expense. How do I tie the tags ?

Hi there, Wclctreasurer. Tags in QuickBooks Online (QBO) are a flexible and customizable way to track and categorize specific types of transactions. Since your goal is to track income and expenses related to your budget and committees, tags can be effectively used for this purpose. You can follow the steps below to get started setting up:

Here’s how to Set Up and Use Tags:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon (Settings).
  2. Select  All Lists and click Tags.
  3. In the Tags window, click the New drop-down to create a new tag.
  4. Fill in the necessary fields and hit Save.

On the other hand, here’s how to apply it for a transaction:

  1. Go to the +Create menu.
  2. Select Expenses under Vendors.
  3. From the transaction, you can add Tags.
  4. Enter the transaction information.
  5. Click on Save and Close.

With this workflow, transactions can be categorized by tags, allowing you to group and track income and expenses easily.

You can generate and customize reports to analyze transactions based on the tags you’ve applied.

  1. Go to the Reports section and enter a specific income or expenses report. which is the Transaction List by Vendor report.
  2. Be sure to select the appropriate date range for the transactions.
  3. Click on the Columns button at the top of the report.
  4. From the More Columns section, search for the Ungrouped Tags and tick the box.
  5. Go to the Filter icon and select the specific tags you want to display in the report.
  6. Once customized, you’ll see transactions grouped or filtered by the selected tags.

Important Note: Only users who had access to the Tags feature before it was discontinued will be able to use Tags in QuickBooks Online. If Tags are unavailable in your account, you may not be eligible to use this functionality.

If you have any additional concerns, please reach out to us. We’re always happy to help.
