Lost 5 years of data in QB Desktop For Mac 2020 after updating the software

Help!!! When I tried to log into my account in QB Desktop For Mac 2020 tonight it asked me to update the software which I did. When I logged into the main Company File I use I noticed I only had data from 2010 to 2020. What happened to the last 5 years of data (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025)??? And two Company Files are gone. One I started working on in 2018 and the other I started working in 2024. Fortunately I have recent backups of all of the Company Files I use. I'm hoping I can upload the backup files of each Company File and everything will be as it was the last time I used QB which was in April 2025. Before I upload the backups I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and found a way to get things back the way they were (before the update) without uploading their backups.

Restoring your backup file is the only option you have at this time. Ask your question again in the community if you run into any issues.

What kind of update notification are you seeing? QB Desktop 2020 has been discontinued since 2023. You should not have received any update notifications since then. Or notification updates related to your macOS?

I only saw one update notification last night. After updating there are no more notifications when I log in. I thought it was best to update as Intuit usually suggests having the latest update installed and I thought if I didn't accept the update I couldn't log in. I have no idea why I received an update notification when you are saying I shouldn't have received it since QB Desktop 2020 has been discontinued since 2023.

Having issues regarding your data will surely delay your working progress and we appreciate all your efforts in dealing with this problem in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, Richard

It's great to know you have a recent backup copy of all your company files, which we can restore anytime on your software. Also, I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case where customers encounter missing company files when updating QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020. Aside from updating QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release, it's important to check the system date to avoid update issues and data loss:

  1. In your Mac, choose the Apple menu and select System Settings.
  2. Click General in the sidebar and choose Date & Time on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
  3. Turn on Set time and date automatically and click Set. Then, enter a network time server for your region.
  4. After that, Turn on Set time zone automatically using your current location.
  5. Close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Run the update of QuickBooks Desktop again.

If the same thing happens where the company data are still missing, we can run the Verify and Rebuild Data Utilities to repair the company file and fix any unusual behavior you encounter. Before you get started, let's make sure to backup your company file.

If the problem persists, we can restore your backup company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Then, we suggest contacting our live support team for them to investigate what's causing this issue.

Thank you for your quick response.

~ I just checked the Date and Tine settings on my Mac. Everything was set up correctly before I updated the software last night. (The Mac has the latest update installed which is Sonoma 14.7.6. Since the Mac is 6 years old it can't run Sequoia).

~ After running Verify Data no issues were found.

~ Should I now upload the backups of the Company Files that are messed up?

~ If I need more assistance on this issue will Intuit provide FREE technical support if I call the technical support phone number?

I would also like to know why I am now called "Migrated Administrator" after I did the update. See attached.
