This isn't the kind of experience that I'd wish you to have while working with a backup feature in QuickBooks Desktop, LRJ3. We'll go through some troubleshooting steps to ensure you can access your online backup.

There's a great chance that the Windows firewall is blocking Intuit Data Protect. To fix this, you need to allow Intuit Data Protect through the firewall by adding its files. Here's how:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and type Firewall in the search field.
  2. Select Allow an app through Windows Firewall, then Allow another app.
  3. Select Browse and go to Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  4. Select QBIDPservice.exe, then Open.
  5. Select Network types and select the Private checkbox. Select Add.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the files IBUenghost.exe and IntuitDataProtect.exe. If you get a message saying the files already exist, you’re all set.

I'd also advise you to check your antivirus software if it's blocking the online backup feature from opening. If you’re unsure how to manage this, it’s best to contact the software provider for assistance.

Attempt to back up with Intuit Data Protect to see if the recommendation above works. If not, proceed with updating your QuickBooks Desktop and Intuit Data Protect by following the instructions below:

Hi,

I can get through to the browse, but can't find program files after that.  😞

Thank you for getting back to us, LJR3. The reason you cannot find the program files is that third-party antivirus software on your computer is blocking them.

To resolve this issue, you need to ensure that these files are allowed through the antivirus. If you're unsure how to do this, I recommend reaching out to your antivirus software provider for additional support.

Once everything is fine, you can attempt to create a backup using Intuit Data Protect again.
