Quickbooks freezes every time I try to print or save an invoice as a pdf file

I use QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 for my business. Today I tried to print an invoice for one of my patients and QB froze. It has never happened before so I closed the program, reopened it and tried again. The same thing happened. I tried saving the invoice as a pdf instead but QB still ended up freezing. I have tried restarting my whole computer, I have utilized QB Tool Hub, I even tried manually changing a few things per tutorials that I found here and nothing has solved the problem. The printer works fine printing anything not off of QB and when I tried to print a different customer's invoice it still froze the program.

Hi there, @ScottPeterson

I’m here to help fix the challenges you’ve encountered upon printing or save an invoice in QuickBooks Desktop.

There are several possible causes for this issue, such as:

  • Your company name is too long
  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • Corruption on your hard drive
  • Damaged program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation
  • Damaged Windows operating system

Since you've already tried using the QuickBooks Tool Hub and rebooting your computer, let's try renaming the QBWUSER.ini file and reinstall QuickBooks using the clean install tool.

To perform the process, please check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop won't open, has stopped working, or not responding

Additionally, you may want to consider rebuilding and verifying your data in case there's any damage. The Verify Data utility identifies any potential data damage issues, while the Rebuild Data utility repairs data in your company file.

If the program is in multi-user mode, you need to change to single user mode (Go to File -> Switch to Single User Mode). It is very important that you have to create a backup copy of your company file before running Verify and Rebuild Data.

Verify Data:

  1. Press the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Select Verify Data
  4. Tap Ok to continue.

Note: If the verify process is successful, you are done. In case it fails due to some problem, QuickBooks will notify you to run Rebuild data.

Rebuild Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top.
  2. Select Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Choose Rebuild Data
  4. Click Ok on Rebuild has completed.

As always, you can contact our QuickBooks Support team if you need assistance with the steps. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment and help you navigate using one of their tools.

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with in opening or closing QuickBooks Desktop. Have a great day!

Same thing happened to me this afternoon.  Our IT guy ran through the QB Tool Hub as well, verified the data integrity as you had mentioned above, uninstalled and re-installed the program, made sure our Windows was up to date ... along with a host of other things way over my head, and nothing has fixed the problem.  Any other suggestions??

Same issue happened to me today.  IT guy ran all of the usual diagnostics including verifying the data integrity as you suggest.  Made sure all of our Windows updates were current, uninstalled and re-installed Quickbooks, ran everything the QB Tool Hub had to offer and still nothing.  Any other suggestions??

A client of mine uses Quickbooks Premier Desktop edition 2019. They had the same problem last monday.

I did use all the tools and suggestions I read and could not get it fixed.

I did troubleshoot and found out that suddenly the daily used Invoice template with the logo was the problem.

They have been using this for almost a year without issues.

To confirm my suspicion, I removed the logo from the template and tried printing.

The result it printed okay.

I tried deleting the logo from the images folder and add a new copy, but still hangs during printing.

Any suggestions considering the above?

Regards,

J.

Thanks for joining this conversation, @SecNets.

Since the issue persists after trying those solutions shared by my colleague above, let's perform other troubleshooting steps to help us fix this.

To start, make sure that your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has the latest release. There are two ways to download the update. You can either perform the process within the software or download the patch through the website. Please refer to this article for further guidance: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once done, try to print a test invoice again to double-check. If the same thing happens, let's us the Repair Tool. It will help fix most issues with the software. Here's how:

  1. Create a back up your company file beforehand to avoid any accidental data loss.
  2. Reboot the computer and tap the Windows Start menu.
  3. Find the Control Panel on the search field or select it from the list.
  4. Press Programs and Features, then Uninstall a Program.
  5. Pick QuickBooks from the list of Programs, then tick Uninstall/Change.
  6. Click on Continue or Next, then Repair.
  7. Press Next again then wait for the tool to start its diagnosis.
  8. Hit Finish when done.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

Please click the Reply button below if you have any other issues or concerns, and I'll get back to you right away. I'm always here to assist. Have a wonderful day!
