QuickBooks Desktop  Pro Plus 2024

I was able to log in earlier today - and then it just randomly logged me out. Now I can't get it to load. It says there is an update available but I don't have admin access. Tells me top close QB, it isn't even open! It won't. Just keeps looking like it is loading. I have restarted my computer, I don't have the tool hub and I can't load it because I can't get into QB?

Hi there, JeanetteSPI.  Let’s work together to pinpoint the issue and get QuickBooks back up and running for you.

It sounds like QuickBooks may still be running in the background or stuck due to an update process. Here's how to close the QuickBooks background process:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Processes tab, then end any of the following processes:
    QBW32.exe or QBW.exe
    QBCFMonitorService.exe
    qbupdate.exe
    QBDBMgr.exe or QBDBMgrN.exe
    QBMapi32.exe
  3. Right-click, then hit End task.

After ending those tasks, try reopening QuickBooks. Allow it about a minute to load and avoid double-clicking multiple times.

If the issue persists, you can proceed using the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Open the Tool Hub, then go to Program Problems, and select Quick Fix My Program. This will close lingering background tasks and attempt to repair the QuickBooks launch issue.

Regarding the update prompt, if you’re seeing an update notice and don’t have admin rights, you’ll need your system or QuickBooks admin user to approve the update before you can open QuickBooks again. Only admins can install product or security updates.

For more details, you can check out this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

After completing the steps above, try opening QuickBooks again. If it still won’t load, restart your computer and reopen Tool Hub, and follow Solution 2 in this article.

Feel free to go back to this thread if you have more questions.

@JeanetteSPI

I don't have admin access

Who has Windows Admin access to your PC? Your IT support or someone else?
