Why does the QuickBooks Online app crash when opening attachments on iPhone, and how do I fix it?

QuickBooks Accounting iOS app crashes when opening expense PDF attachments. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app with no effect. Crashing started about 1 month ago.

When the app crashes right as you tap into an expense PDF attachment on your iPhone, it's almost always tied to the app version, your iOS version, or some corrupted app data getting in the way. Here's the order of steps that clears it up for most people:

  1. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then try opening the attachment again. A spotty connection can look like a crash.
  2. Close the QuickBooks app completely (not just minimize it) and reopen it.
  3. Restart your iPhone.
  4. Open the App Store and check for a QuickBooks update. Install it if one's available.
  5. Check for an iOS update in Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest version.
  6. If you're still stuck, uninstall the QuickBooks app and reinstall it from the App Store.

If you've already uninstalled and reinstalled without any luck, it's worth going back and checking specifically for an app update and an iOS update. A lot of crashes tied to opening attachments come down to an app build and iOS version that aren't quite in sync, even when everything looks current at a glance.

While you're working through this, you can still get to your expense PDF attachments by signing in to QuickBooks Online from a mobile browser instead of the app. It's not as convenient, but it'll keep you moving in the meantime.

I have called in twice already. The first time I was told Intuit no longer supports the app (even though I get regular updates). The second time I was told all I could do was uninstall and reinstall the app. I think I need QuickBooks Accounting app support as the QuickBooks Online support folks don’t know about the app.

I have the same issue. What a shame! It’s been ongoing for couple of months now. We are paying for a service that cannot deliver.

The QuickBooks Accounting App version 24.03.3 opens PDFs just fine on an iPhone X. The same app version on the iPhone 15 Pro crashes when attempting to open PDFs. Hopefully that helps the support team figure this out.

The Quickbooks app is crashing every time I open it. I’ve tried all of the troubleshooting steps.. Nothing is working. I’m about to cancel my subscription and go with Freshbooks. QB is a nightmare.
