I wish to convert from qb premier to qb online. data is very corrupt in existing desktop files. should we only transfer listing files for customers, suppliers, etc?

Have you tried running Verify/Rebuild Data utility?

If the same error still persists, you can purchase a 3rd party service to fix your company file.
