QuickBooks Product Updates: AI-powered automation, smarter collaboration, and simpler payments | August 2026

This month brings a mix of AI-powered automation, smarter accountant collaboration, and simpler payments all designed to save you time and keep you MTD-ready. From building your own AI automations to paying supplier bills without leaving QuickBooks, here's everything new in August.
[MAKING TAX DIGITAL]
A new self-serve tool to help sole traders and landlords get ready for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. Answer a few quick questions about your business and record-keeping habits, and the planner builds a personalised 90, 60, or 30-day roadmap for your first quarterly update delivered as a PDF with clear action points at each stage.
Who's it for?
Sole traders and landlords affected by MTD for Income Tax, especially those with qualifying income over £50,000. Take the free 90-60-30 MTD check and get your personalised plan.
[PAYMENTS]
You can now pay supplier bills straight from QuickBooks Online. Select Pay now and Apron, our UK payments partner, opens right inside QuickBooks. Verify your account once, then future payments take just a few clicks. Apron always pays by bank transfer, even if your supplier doesn't take cards, and QuickBooks updates the bill status automatically once payment goes through.
What this means for you
- Pay bills without leaving QuickBooks. No manual bank transfers or logging in elsewhere
- One-time setup. A short business verification (KYB) the first time you pay, then you're set for future payments
- Automatic reconciliation. Bill statuses update in QuickBooks as soon as payment goes through, so there's less matching to do yourself
Who's it for?
UK-registered companies on QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, or Advanced.
[GUIDED SET UP]

Did you know you can get FREE 1:1 onboarding with QuickBooks?
If you're new to QuickBooks, we want to make sure you're set up for success from day one, so we're giving you access to a free, personalised onboarding session with a real product expert.
What this means for you
No more guessing where things live or how to get started. Your onboarding session is a chance to ask questions, get set up properly, and start saving time faster.
Who's it for?
This one's for customers who joined us within the last 90 days. So, if you're relatively new here, this is your sign to book now.
What you need to do:
You can find it directly within QuickBooks, or click here to get started.
[INTUIT INTELLIGENCE]
You can now build your own AI automations in QuickBooks with Intuit Intelligence. Describe a recurring task in plain language like "summarise my sales every Monday" and it sets up an automation that runs on a schedule. Manage everything from Custom Automations, including ready-made templates like invoice reminders and customer follow-ups.
What this means for you
- No manual setup: describe what you want in plain English, no config fields
- Ready-made templates: invoice reminders, business health check, customer follow-up, books cleanup, revenue-to-cash tracker, and profit & loss analysis
- Full visibility: see every skill's status (running, paused, errored) and a full audit log from Custom Automations
Who's it for?
Anyone with access to Intuit Intelligence. Not currently available on QuickBooks Sole Trader. Note: this feature is in beta, and creating or running a skill counts against your monthly Intuit Intelligence chat prompt allowance.
[INTUIT INTELLIGENCE]
When Intuit Intelligence spots a question best suited to your accountant like a tax treatment question, you can now send it to them directly from the same conversation. Intuit Intelligence drafts a summary of your chat for you to review and edit before sending. Your accountant sees only that summary, not your full conversation.
What this means for you
- No re-explaining: a ready-made summary is sent straight to your accountant
- You stay in control: review and edit the message before it sends, and your accountant only sees what you choose to share
- Everything in one place: messages land in Collab Hub, visible to both you and your accountant under Requests
Who's it for?
Customers with an accountant connected to their QuickBooks company. If you don't have one connected, you won't see this option. Note: this feature is in beta.
We’ll continue to share clear, practical updates like these, focusing on changes that make a real difference to how you run your business. Keep an eye out for future posts, and as always, in the comments, let us know what you’d like us to improve next.
