Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community, jeremy-allcock-e. I'll share information on how Detail type works in QuickBooks to ensure everything in your Chart of accounts stays accurate.
Setting up a new detail type is currently unavailable in QuickBooks. This is because when you add a new account in the chart of accounts, the account type you select will determine the options you have available in the detail type field. Also, if you’re unsure which type of account to choose or what to call a new account, detail types can help. The QuickBooks program already creates those detail types to ensure that when you run reports like profit and loss, you know exactly what’s making money and what you’re spending it on.
On the other hand, please know that you have the option to name your new account in order to personalize it in QuickBooks. You can look at step five in this post to see how to perform the process: Add an account to your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.
Always feel free to leave a comment below if you have other questions or concerns about managing your account in QuickBooks. I'm always around to help, jeremy-allcock-e. Have a great day!
