Ability to save settings in new Modern View Reports

While many Accountant users despise the new "Modern View" reports, based on the email this week it is here to stay.  The report has potential but right now is causing more work for end users because of our inability to modify the filters or columns and SAVE that as the default format to open each time.  Yes, you can save it as a new report, but we need at least the ability to set a default view that will allow us to mimic the Classic Report view.  For example, why is the date field so far down the list?  In the table, it is so far over to the right that even on a large monitor, you cannot see the date without reordering the columns.  And once you reorder them, that setting is not retained so if you move away from that report or drill into a transaction and return to the at report, the columns and filters are completely reset. This is inefficient and part of the overall frustration with the new reports.  Am I missing something??  Please give us the ability to set the order and SAVE it.

You can save your column order and filters in QuickBooks Online so they stay the way you set them.

Save your customized report:

  1. Go to Reports, then select Custom reports.

  2. Open your report, then select Customize, and navigate to the Columns section.

  3. Use the Reorder tab to drag columns into the order you want.

  4. Use the More Columns tab to check or uncheck the fields you want to show.

  5. Select Save As, then Save.

Saving your report this way keeps your column order and layout in place every time you open it.

Remove columns you don't need:

If Modern View shows more columns than you want, use the More Columns tab described above to uncheck any fields you don't need. This trims the report down to just the data you use.

Filter your report:

  1. Go to Reports, then select Custom reports.
  2. Open your report and select Customize.
  3. Use the Filters dropdown.
  4. Choose a data type and select the operation you want.
  5. Select from the provided values, and add another filter if needed.

Your filters save along with your report when you select Save As. Your report stays exactly as you customized it even after you view transaction details.

In the past, your column order and filters might reset if you opened a transaction and then went back to your report. We’ve fixed that, so your customizations stay in place and you don’t have to set them up again.

Hello there, 50South.

One of the possible reasons why your report settings aren't saving could be a cache build-up. Let's rule that out by performing some troubleshooting steps.

First, access your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito browser. Then, save a customized report. If it works, I recommend going back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the data so it starts on a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers.

Additionally, ensure your device meets QBO's system requirements for the best experience. You can check them out in this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online products.

Once you've saved your reports customizations, here's an article on emailing them on a recurring schedule in case you might need it: Set schedule and email information for a memorized report.

Feel free to reply to this post if you have further concerns about saving report settings. I'll be around to help you out.

It's always important to blame the browser.

It is not the browser, it is the core functionality of the way the Modern View report opens and the default order of the columns that is at issue.  But thanks, that is often the issue with other things.

I hope this posts.  Keep getting errors.

There are too many columns in the default settings for the modern view reports.  I switch to classic as switching is so much less of a hassle then removing columns for every report I pull.  REALLY need to fix this.
