We recognize you prefer to use the classic view in QuickBooks Online, ebarauskas.
The option of defaulting to the classic view is unavailable. When pulling up the report, you'll have the alternative to click the Switch to the classic view to get back to the old interface.
The recent QuickBooks updates have an unfavorable effect on your account-related work. Consider sending feedback to our product developers about this option. They might consider adding a possibility to default it to the classic view functionality.
Here's how:
Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.

Yes I already am forced to using the switch to "classic view". It's just a real pain. There's an old saying "don't fix what isn't broken". If Intuit is really responsive to users, it would offer the default option of modern or classic views.
Hopefully you can pass this on to your product development people.
Please keep the classic view option for those who rely upon it for reporting purpose. Mordern view is not user friendly at all. How can we default to classic view? QB, please kindly address the matter. Some formation of reporting is not available in modern view and will cause great deal of problems for many organisation.
We understand the value of the classic view in your business operations. However, reverting to this view for certain reports is currently unavailable.
Please know that QuickBooks Online has acknowledged the need for enhanced reporting capabilities. Due to limitations with the legacy platform, we have transitioned to a new, more capable platform to better meet the needs of all our customers. This change has enabled us to introduce advanced features, such as the Custom Report Builder, ultimately leading to the creation of Modern Reports.
Additionally, it's important to note that a list of standard reports in QuickBooks is still accessible in both Classic and Modern views. For more information, please read the Frequently asked questions about Modern Reports part of this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online using modern view.
Your feedback is crucial in helping us enhance our service to better support all users, FP11. If you have any more questions or require further assistance, please don't hesitate to post in this forum.
QuickBooks Online has retired Classic reports and Modern is now the only reporting experience. When this thread was active there was a "Switch to classic view" toggle, but that option has since been removed. Since Classic isn't available to fall back on anymore, here's how to get the accounting detail you're missing directly in Modern view.
Rebuild the detail you relied on with the Custom Report Builder
Most of the account-level detail people miss from Classic can be reproduced in Modern using columns and grouping:
Add the columns you need (for example account, name, memo/description, split, and transaction number) so the report shows the same fields you had in Classic.
Group and subtotal by account, customer, vendor, or another field to match your old layout, and collapse or expand sections for summary versus full detail.
Filter to the accounts, date range, or transaction types you need, then save the customization so you don't rebuild it each time.
Your existing saved custom reports, groups, and schedules carried over to Modern automatically, so any report you had saved should still run.
Make it easier to read
If part of the frustration is layout rather than data, adjust column widths and the report density, use the full-page scroll, and use Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (Mac) to find within a report. If a report still isn't laid out the way you want on screen, export to Excel or PDF for full control.
Save your preferred reports so they're one click away
Since you can't set a global Classic default, the closest equivalent is to build each report the way you want once, save it as a custom report, and add it to a group or your favorites, so your month-end set opens ready to go.
Sharing feedback
You can still send product feedback through Settings (the gear icon), then Feedback, and it reaches the product team, though to be straight with you, it won't restore Classic now that it's retired. It's most useful for flagging a specific report or field you can't reproduce in Modern, which helps prioritize those gaps.
