Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community. I'd be happy to provide some information on your question regarding using the enter key to move through QB Online.
When working in QB, you can tap the tab button to easily navigate through the system without having to constantly move the mouse. At this time there isn't a way to set the enter key as the navigation button.
I can see how this could be beneficial to you and other users. I'll do my part and pass your suggestion along to the Product Development Team to let them know you'd like to have this ability.
Thank you for posting in the Community. Allow me to help share some additional input about activating the enter key for saving a transaction.
Currently, the keyboard shortcut for saving transaction is to press Alt + S or Alt + Shift + S for Firefox and Chrome. As mentioned by my colleague MorganB, the option to set the enter key as the navigation or saving button isn't available.
We value your willingness to help us improve our products. I'll make sure to let our developers know about your preferences by sending them a product suggestion. This way, they'll know what features should be added to make the program work better for you.
That should get you back on track. I'm just a post away if you should have any additional questions about QuickBooks Online. I'll be happy to help you out. Have a great rest of your week.
Yes QB...PLEASE go back to using the 'enter' key on the 'adding machine' (rite side of the keyboard) like an enter key! We use the 'numbers keyboard' like an adding machine when entering deposits, etc and it makes it MUCH EASIER & FASTER, vs using the tab key! At this time, you hit the enter key, it takes you to a new page....not good...slows us down. Thank You...fingers crossed.
I, too, would like to be able to use the enter key instead of tab to move from field to field in QB onlne. I have been using SAGE accounting for 23 years and have changed to QB and so used to using the enter key because it is much more conveniently located on the keyboard.
For QBs Desktop, this is the article that helped me. I was surprised at how DIFFICULT it was to locate this simple information. I hope it helps for online as well - I have copied the info from the article just in case it becomes unavailable as well as uploaded their screenshot.
"Use the enter key in QuickBooks to move between fields
Question: Is there somewhere on my settings that I can select the enter key in QuickBooks to move on just using my keypad. I have to use my mouse and click on save or close?
Answer:Yes, while working in your QB file, from the top menu bar clickEdit>Preferences>General tab>My Preferences and checking the box for Pressing Enter moves between fields."
Has anything been done to allow moving through fields with the enter key rather than tab? I just migrated over to online from desktop and it takes so much longer to enter invoices using Tab. I don't like the online version at all :-(
Thanks for reaching out to us and sharing your observation about the menus in QuickBooks, @heatherbird.
We recognize the need to be able to have additional navigation preferences for our program.
Unfortunately, this feature you're looking for is still unavailable at the moment. I want you to know that the changes in the program is released based on certain several factors. We're unable to provide the turnaround time on when new features are released in QuickBooks, since this is handled by the Developers Team.
