Historical deposit/client data changed for users after recent QuickBooks Online update
I am looking for clarification from QuickBooks regarding the impact of the recent invoicing/payment update on historical deposit data.
After this update, we noticed that historical deposits that previously had separate Client and Received From values are now displaying the Received From value in the Client field.
The concerning part is that this appears to have changed the way historical transactions are presented without actually changing all underlying data. For example:
- Client-based reports still show the deposits correctly.
- Transaction search results still show the correct client.
- The client relationship appears to still exist in the backend data.
However, when opening the deposit itself, the client information that was previously displayed is no longer visible. The deposit now appears to show only the Received From value.
QuickBooks support has stated that this behavior is "working as intended," but that raises a larger concern: if this is the intended behavior, how is QuickBooks ensuring the accuracy and reliability of historical accounting data?
Specifically:
- How does QuickBooks plan to address historical transactions that no longer display the same client information users previously relied on?
- How can users be confident that the underlying client data will remain accurate and reportable?
- What safeguards are in place to prevent future updates from overwriting or removing these historical relationships?
- Why does the transaction detail view no longer match what is still being used in reports and transaction searches?
This is not simply a request to restore an old data entry workflow. The issue is that a product update appears to have created inconsistencies between the transaction display and the underlying accounting data.
For businesses that rely on customer/client-level reporting, historical transaction integrity is critical. Users need confidence that their accounting records are not only preserved, but also accurately represented throughout the product.
