Question

How can I change the view of the Cash Flow planner app to display 12 months into the future and not the past? Currently it looks like it only displays 3 months out?

Hello, @john438. As of now, QuickBooks Online (QBO) by default displays a 3-month view of your cash flow.

If you are using a lower-tier version of QBO (Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus), as a workaround to address your concern, you can manually add your plan transactions to your cash flow section, export the data into a CSV file, and then use Excel or a similar program on your device to manually create a graph or chart.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Home menu.
  2. Click View cash flow, then choose Cash flow planner.

  3. From the drop-down, select Upcoming or In the past.
  4. Click Add item, then fill in the details.
  5. Save after.
  6. Lastly, click the export icon.

However, if you are looking for a more efficient and automated solution, QuickBooks Online also offers a higher-tier version called QBO Advanced.

The Advanced plan includes a Forecast feature that allows you to create and display cash flow projections for up to 12 months into the future. This can save you time and provide a more detailed and accurate long-term view of your finances directly within QuickBooks.

If upgrading to QBO Advanced aligns with your needs, we’d be happy to assist you further with the transition to ensure you can access all the features available to help you manage your finances more effectively.

What if you already have QBO Advanced and it only shows 3 months into the future?

Hi, Proph.

I understand the importance of having a robust forecasting feature in QBO Advanced to manage your cash flow better. In the Cash Flow Overview and Cash Flow Planner pages, you can set the forecast range anywhere from 3 months to 24 months.

By selecting the 24 months range, you can view Cash balance and Money in/out projections beyond the initial 3 months. You can refer to the screenshot below for more details.
