how do I add totals at the bottom of the journal entry

I saw this in an example for journal entries but have not been able to find way to turn this feature on in my QuickBooks..

Hi there, @UAS.

 

It's my pleasure to walk you through on how to record journal entries in QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select Make General Journal Entries.
  2. Fill out the fields to create your journal entry. 
  3. Make sure your debits equal your credits when you’re done.
  4. Click Save & Close.

    Thank you for the reply!! I was trying to find the way where a running total of debits & credits was showing at the bottom of the journal entry.

      You'll want to maximize the Make General Journal Entries window to view the totals at the bottom. Here's a sample screenshot on how it looks like:

      Totals on Journals are an Enterprise & Premier feature. Not for Pro. You can't turn on the totals in Pro.

       

      No idea why the Intuit reps @Klent @JessT  @JoesemM @MaryLurleenM @JonpriL  don't seem to know that.  It has been this way since the totals were added.

        I'd like to share some additional details about the totals option in a journal entry.

         

        May I know what version of QuickBooks Desktop do you have? As per my colleague RCV and BigRedConsulting mentioned here, the Totals on Journals are only available in the Enterprise and Premier versions.

         

        If you have these versions and the option is not showing up, let's repair your company file using the Verify and Rebuild Data tool. The Verify Data self-identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file, the while Rebuild Data self-resolves most data integrity issues that the Verify Data finds.

         

        To Verify, here's how:

         

        1. Go to the File menu. Then hover over Utilities and select Verify Data.
        2. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

         

        For rebuilding the data, you can follow these steps:

         

        1. Go to the File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
        2. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
        3. Let the tool repair your file. It may take some time. QuickBooks may seem stuck, but as long as you can move your mouse, the tool is working.
        4. When the tool finishes, click OK.

         

        Once done, go to Company > Make General Journal Entries and check if you have the Totals option. You can also check for other solutions in this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

        Not having a totaling function for journal entries in the Pro version of Quickbooks is the equivalent of building a car model that doesn't have windshield wipers. It's unfathomable to me that an accounting software would be built without this. It is functionality that everyone making a journal entry would need.

         

        Is the solution you are providing to Pro users to manually add all debits and credits off-system?

          You can't turn on the balances when using Pro. Instead, they appear only when using Premier or Enterprise.

           

          It is odd that Pro doesn't include this, but then that's a trend all over QB, where many features are included only in Premier and Enterprise.

            We have premier version and I still can't see my totals! Very frustrating!
