Yes, you can still pay by check! QuickBooks Online hasn't removed check payments. It just defaults to showing online payment options first when you set up a bill. When you pick a bank account instead of an online payment method, QuickBooks records and prints a standard check for you instead of processing an electronic payment.
Pay a bill by check
- Select + New, then Pay bills.
- From the Payment account dropdown, choose the checking or savings account you're paying from. This is what unlocks the Starting check no. field and tells QuickBooks you're writing a check, not paying online.
- Select the payment date and the bill or bills you want to pay.
- Enter the amount for each bill, then select Save.
Because you picked a bank account rather than an online payment method, this creates a check payment. Your vendor won't get an electronic payment, and you'll print and mail the check yourself.
Print the check
- Go to Expenses & Bills, then Expense transactions.
- Select Print checks, then open the check you just recorded.
- Select Print check to print it now, or Print later to add it to your print queue.
- Choose your check type, standard or voucher, and follow the print prompts. Standard checks print three to a page, and voucher checks print one check with stubs.
If you already paid a vendor by handwriting a check outside QuickBooks, use Mark as paid from the bill's Action column instead. That records the payment as already settled without sending it through an online payment method.
