How do I turn off suggested categorization in QuickBooks Online so it stops guessing my vendors and categories?

If QuickBooks Online keeps suggesting vendors or categories that are wrong, you can check your suggested categorization setting, or any bank rules that may be activated.

Turn off suggested categorization

1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
2. Select the Settings ⚙ icon above the transaction list.
3. Uncheck Enable suggested categorization.
4. Select the Settings ⚙ icon again to save and close.

With this off, QuickBooks stops guessing a vendor or category based on past transactions, and you'll categorize each one yourself instead.

If you also have bank rules set up, check those separately: a rule with Auto-add turned on will apply its own category automatically for transactions matching that rule's specific conditions, which is a different behavior from the general suggested categorization setting.
