My custom reports work fine but the management reports get stuck in a loop when I try to save as PDF. Just a temporary bug, I hope? Thanks

Hi, newyorktutor.

Let me help you pass through this situation to continue exporting the report as a PDF.

I'd suggest logging into your account QuickBooks Online through a private or incognito window. This browser window doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to find out if there's an issue with the browser.

The first step is accessing QuickBooks Online through the private or incognito window.

Let's use these shortcut keys to get started:

  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Safari Browser: Command + Shift + N

If it works, return to your regular browser and clear its cache. If not, use other supported web browsers. The current one you're using may have a temporary issue with QuickBooks. Utilizing a new browser allows you to get back to working order.

if the issue persists, try updating your Adobe Acrobat. Most printing or viewing problems in QuickBooks Online can be solved by updating or repairing this component to its latest version.

If you've followed all the steps I gave you and the Export as PDF in management report still isn't working, I suggest reaching out to our live support. This way, a representative can check and investigate the root cause of the issue. Visit this article to see the support hours: QuickBooks Online Support.

Also, I've got you this handy article to help you analyze and present QuickBooks Online Advanced data using Spreadsheet: Create and edit reports in Spreadsheet Sync.

If you need further assistance sorting this out, I'll be happy to assist you again. Have a great day!

Since your custom reports export fine and only Management reports loop, this is almost always about how the PDF is generated and opened, not your data. The two quickest things to try are allowing pop-ups for QuickBooks and using your browser's own Print to PDF instead of the built-in Save as PDF. Here's the full run-through from fastest to most thorough.

1. Allow pop-ups, then retry

The Management report PDF opens in a new tab or window, so a pop-up blocker can make it look like it's stuck in a loop. Allow pop-ups for *.intuit.com (or turn your blocker off for that site), then save as PDF again.

2. Use Print to PDF as a workaround

If the built-in Save as PDF keeps looping, open the Management report and use your browser's print instead: press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Command + P (Mac), set the destination to Save as PDF, and save. This bypasses the built-in generator that's getting stuck.

3. Rule out the browser

  1. Open QuickBooks in a private or incognito window (Chrome or Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N; Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P; Safari: Command + Shift + N) and try the export again.
  2. If that works, return to your normal browser and clear its cache, then retry.
  3. If it still loops, try another supported browser.

4. Narrow the report, then export

A large Management report packet (many included reports or a long date range) can time out or loop while building the PDF. Temporarily shorten the date range or remove a couple of included reports, then export. If a smaller version saves fine, size or one specific included report is the trigger, and you can add pieces back to find it.

5. If it still loops everywhere

If it loops in incognito, after clearing cache, and in another browser, it's likely a temporary service or rendering issue rather than anything on your end, which fits your "temporary bug" hunch. Check the QuickBooks status page, and if it persists, contact Support so they can check for a known issue and investigate your specific packet. (Updating or repairing Adobe Acrobat/Reader is also worth doing if you open the file in Adobe rather than the browser.)
