QBDT 2024 Trial Balance account numbers not in same order as COA

This is something we've encountered since the last QBDT update. When running a Trial Balance for a client's books, some of the account numbers are not in the same order as showing on the chart of accounts. For example, our CPA sets up the Fixed Assets as:

1305 Equipment

1310 Accum Depr--Equip

1320 Automotive

1330 Accum Depr--Automotive

etc ...

These accounts show in the correct order in the COA. But are acually reversed on the TB with 1330 first, then 1320, 1310, 1305.

Could this be an update bug? Or am I missing something here? For this particular client, all the other account lines are in the correct order. Just the FA lines are affected.

The sorting in the Chart of Accounts (COA) and the Trial Balance report should normally match. Since you're seeing different sorting between the two, you can use the Re-sort Lists option mentioned above.

The Re-sort feature in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) helps correct odd behavior in your primary lists and restores them to their default order.

If you prefer not to use the Re-sort option, you can contact our Live Support Team, and they'll be able to take a close look and assist you further.

Good morning, @Swordbooks

It's great to see you back in the Community!

Before digging further, let's try to get to the root of the cause or resolve the problem. If you notice any odd behavior in your lists, re-sorting them can help. Use the steps below to re-sort these lists

  1. From the Lists menu.
  2. Select the lists you need to re-sort.
  3. Go to the View menu and press Re-sort Lists
  4. Tap OK
  5. Close and reopen your company file.

Keep us updated on how these steps go. We want to ensure that you get this taken care of as soon as possible. I'll be waiting for your response!

Since the Chart of Accounts is sorting correctly, I don't feel like resorting a list will be the solution. I've attached my example below. The COA is sorting numerically within the categories, but the Trial Balance is not. The Trial Balance settings are at Default, Ascending Order.
