Hi there, Tommy.

You can add a custom tax rate directly in your QuickBooks Online Ireland account to manage your UK imports.

Setting up a custom rate allows you to have full control over how your UK purchases are recorded and reported. Here is how you can do this:

  1. Go to the All apps menu and select VAT.
  2. Select Add Tax at the top right of the screen.                 image.png
  3. Choose Custom tax from the panel.                         image.png
  4. Enter a name for the tax, such as "UK Import VAT," and enter the rate percentage.
  5. Ensure you select Purchases as the transaction type and check the Purchase tax is reclaimable box if you intend to claim it back.
  6. Select Save.                                                                                       image.png

Once saved, this rate will be available in the VAT dropdown whenever you create a bill or expense.

Also, please ensure you confirm the specific rate and return box mapping with your accountant for accuracy. If you don't have an accountant, you can find one here in our Resource Center.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns.
