Question

How do you deactivate a VAT Rate? In the past I created some EU country VAT OSS tax codes that I do not use any longer.

Hello there, Alex169.

QuickBooks Online does not allow you to permanently delete a tax rate or tax agency. However, if they are no longer needed, you can make the tax rate inactive or rename the tax agency. This ensures the tax rate is removed from the Tax column when creating transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Click All Apps.
  2. Go to Taxes, then select Overview.
  3. Select Edit VAT, then choose Edit rates.

  4. Find the tax rate you want to deactivate and switch it from On to Off.

If you want to reactivate a VAT rate again, click the gear icon above the Action column and check Include inactive to show all deactivated VAT codes. Pick the VAT code you want to reactivate, then switch it back to On.
