Question

I did not file the previous tax period, but I made the payment, and I am trying to do it now. Now it treats Both periods as one and won't let me do the filing separately

Hi there, Nicos. QuickBooks Online consolidates all unfiled periods to ensure your tax reporting remains continuous and no transactions are missed.

While this is a built-in safeguard to prevent gaps in your records, you can separate periods you've already paid from your current one by manually adjusting your filing dates.

Here's how:

  1. Go back to the Tax Center.
  2. Click Prepare return.
  3. Ensure the period dates are correct in both the Start date and End date fields.
  4. Select a date in the Filing date section as well.
  5. Choose Mark as filed.
