Question

How do i change the GST amount on an expense? It is for a food order so not all the items on the bill have GST so the GST is not 5% of the entire bill.

Hello,

Recording your transactions accurately is important for your business finances. I'll be happy to help with this. QuickBooks Online lets you easily enter expenses and assign different tax rates per line item. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Select the (+) icon from the top right
  2. Under Suppliers, select Expense
  3. Select the Payee, Date, Payment method, etc
  4. In the Item details section, enter your food items and select the desired tax rate for each. This is done in the SALES TAX column where you can pick the Exempt (0%) option for food items without tax for example.
  5. Once done entering the expense details, select Save and close
