Question

I am about to file HST for Q1 2026? The section I usually use for this lists total sales but nothing else the whole form is blue print except Total sales?

Hello there, Jim. Please know that the return form would appear as zero or in blueprint if QuickBooks can't detect any tax amounts tied to your transactions for that period.

This happens when sales or expenses are entered without selecting an HST code. QuickBooks can still calculate your total sales, but it won't have any tax data to show in the other sections of the return.

I recommend reviewing some of your transactions from the first quarter of 2026 to make sure the correct HST codes were applied. Additionally, running the Taxable Sales Summary report would help verify whether any tax was recorded during that period.

  1. Navigate to Reports, then Standard reports.
  2. Enter the report name in the search field.
  3. Set the Report period and Customize it if necessary.
  4. You can also click on the figures in the report to get routed to the Transaction Report for a complete overview.

If you find transactions with missing tax codes, you can update them and then refresh or recreate the return so that the correct amounts reflect.

Let me know what you find. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to reply. I'm here to help.
