Question

How can I import transactions via shopify connector integration if they contain only non-taxable items? The error asks me to set an HST rate but there isn't a field to.

When I select "review", the item level table usually contains a "tax" column, but for transactions that have no tax for any items, this column is disabled. Any way to work around this?

To successfully import non-taxable transactions, please first confirm whether they are genuinely tax-exempt. To help provide the best solution moving forward, could you confirm which page you are on and share the exact error message you are seeing?

Since QuickBooks Online is fully compliant with your third-party connector's data structure, which requires a designated tax code to process incoming entries, you can set this up by following your QuickBooks workflow:

  1. Go to the All apps menu.
  2. Select Sales Tax to verify your tax agencies. Ensure you have an exempt or zero-rated tax code available (e.g., Out of Scope or Zero-Rated).

Because tax collection rules and product exemption settings originate directly within the Shopify platform, we also recommend reviewing your Shopify tax setup alongside your connector mapping to ensure zero-rated items are clearly addressed.

For future reference, you can read the official article on how to connect Shopify to QuickBooks Online.
