Open Sales Tax Report not Appearing

So - I pay sales tax in both NY & NJ - but when I go to the "sales tax returns" page - for "all statuses" and "all agencies" - I am not seeing NY - only NJ. This is a problem since QBO was upgraded - in the older version it appeared fine. This is a screenshot from the "all sales tax returns" screen. You can see that all agencies is chosen - and a paid NY return shows up - but the open return (due in 2026) is not showing. If I "view summary" on the paid NY sales tax return from last year - and then change the dates to the current year - I can clearly see taxes are owed.  Why is this not appearing?

Thank you for sharing the detailed information and screenshots, Atlanticpool.

It appears that you are filing for the New York Department of Taxation and Finance on an annual basis. Since the tax period ended on February 28, 2025, this is likely why the Open status for the NY agency is not appearing. I suggest reviewing the Sales Tax Returns at a later time.

Additionally, we can review the sales tax settings to ensure that the NY agency is active. This will help ensure your sales tax returns are properly displayed in QuickBooks.

The New York agency is active.

In regards to the tax season not ending, then that should apply to New Jersey tax report as well  The New Jersey tax season doesn’t end until December 31 - But that is showing as open.

You make a fair point, @atlanticpool2019. The New York (NY) tax report should display just like the New Jersey (NJ) one, since both agencies is active.

Since this appears to be an inconsistency in how the system is pulling the NY data specifically, I recommend contacting our Support Team. They have specialized tools to see what's causing NY to hide while NJ remains visible.

Here’s how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks account.
  2. Click the Help menu or the (?) icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Go to the Assistant tab.
  4. Type "contact support" in the chat box and press Enter.
  5. Provide a brief description of your concern and click Continue.
  6. Choose your preferred option. Have us call you or Chat.
