Question

Does QBO still not support uploading EUR receipts if main account is GBP? I see it was first raised 7 years ago. A deal breaker, as many of my travel expenses are in EUR

Hi there, havansky. Uploading receipts in a different currency is not supported since the receipt upload tool is designed to follow the home currency of your account. If your main account is set to GBP, the system will automatically categorize uploaded receipts in that currency, as the feature does not support multicurrency detection.

The software is working as designed since the automated extraction technology is calibrated to match the base currency of your subscription to ensure consistency in your books. While the program supports multicurrency for QuickBooks Online (QBO) Essentials, Plus, and Advanced subscriptions, any receipt uploaded will default its currency to your home currency, regardless of what is listed on the document.

Let's get it straight: does QBO allow to attach a receipt (file, photo) to an existing transaction?

Without any AI wizardry and auto matching? I don't see how can I do it. I understand the software might have issues to do it automatically in foreign currency (although it should be able to reference the date and provider on the receipt, not difficult). I can live without automatic features. But I must be able to attach any image to a transaction, so I keep receipt photos with it. If QBO can't do it, I will have to leave immediately.

Hi there, @havansky. Yes, QuickBooks Online allows you to attach a file or photo of your receipts to an existing transaction in your account. You can utilize the Attachment section inside a transaction to store snapshots of your receipts.

To begin, locate and access your expense transactions through All apps and then Expenses & Bills. Select Expense transactions and then in the Action column, click the dropdown arrow and then View/Edit. In the Attachments section, select Add attachment and locate the receipt photo or file to add it to the transaction.

For more details, please see this article: Add or delete attachments.

With this, you secure your receipts inside their respective transactions and keep your books organized within QuickBooks.
