Question

UK GBP Invoice paid from Foreign Currency Account

Hello I have a weird issue maybe that I cannot seem to correct or allocate.

I use Wise Bank as I have payments from various currencies.

What has happened is I have an Invoice from Adobe for £18.32

What Wise did was when the card was charged it took the money from my Hungarian HUF account.

So now I have a HUF transaction amount and I have an Adobe Invoice for £18.32

When I go to the bank transactions page I cannot match this HUF transaction with the Adobe Invoice.

I cannot go into the invoice and manually make a payment to the HUF account.

I'm stuck I cannot allocate this HUF transaction with the Adobe Invoice.

Any help appreciated

Good day, Phoenix. Paying a GBP to an invoice or bill directly using a HUF (Hungarian Forint) account is not available since they have a different currency.

Since QuickBooks won't let you link your HUF bank feed directly to a GBP invoice, you need to create a Bridge or Clearing Account. This is a dummy bank account set in your home currency (GBP) that acts as a middleman to facilitate the exchange.

Here’s how:
  1. Select the Gear icon and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click New account.
  3. Name the account to Dummy Bank Home Currency.
  4. Set the Account Type to Cash at bank and in hand and Detail Type to Cash on hand.
  5. Ensure the currency is set to your home currency (GBP) before you Save and Close.

After that, record the Adobe payment from the Dummy GBP account as Expense or Bill/Bill Payment.

Then, record a Transfer from the HUF account to the Dummy GBP account, manually adjusting the exchange rate so the cleared amount matches the exact HUF charge on their Wise bank statement. Here’s how:

  1. Go to +Create > Transfer.
  2. Set Transfer Funds From to HUF account.
  3. Set Transfer Funds To a Dummy GBP account.
  4. Enter the HUF amount that matches the Wise statement charge.
  5. QBO will auto-populate an exchange rate. Click the Exchange rate field and manually adjust it until the GBP amount matches the exact cleared amount you need.
  6. Set the correct Date and save it.

After transferring the funds, match the downloaded payment under the HUF bank to the transfer transaction.
