Bank of America – QBDT connection crashes after OAuth; error 88888 in affected company file

I’m using QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024 (subscription), Release R21P.

I have multiple company files that use Bank Feeds with Bank of America. QB has prompted me to change my OLB connection from Bank of America - New to Bank of America QBDT. Here is what I’m seeing:

1. In one company file (the one I attempted to migrate):
After disconnecting all accounts from Bank of America - New, I choose Bank of America QBDT as the connection method

OAuth login at Bank of America succeeds

I select the accounts to connect

QuickBooks crashes immediately after the account‑selection step

When I reopen QuickBooks, I try again, and get error 88888:
“All accounts associated with this customer ID have been synced…”

I cannot connect Bank of America QBDT

I also cannot reconnect Bank of America – New

This file is now completely locked out of Bank Feeds

2. In another company file (one I have NOT attempted to migrate):
Bank of America – New still connects normally

It downloads recent transactions without errors

No 88888 message

No crash

No migration attempt was made in this file

3. Clean test file results:
To rule out file corruption, I created a brand‑new test file.

Bank of America – New connects and downloads transactions

Created a 2nd new test file.

Bank of America QBDT still crashes at the same step

Summary of what I’m seeing:
The crash only happens when connecting Bank of America QBDT

The crash happens in both the real file and the clean test file

Other company files that never attempted migration continue to work with Bank of America – New

This suggests the issue is specific to the Bank of America QBDT connection method, not my QuickBooks installation, and not my credentials.

I cannot find any current Community or Support posts acknowledging this behavior.
Are other users seeing the same crash + 88888 lockout when attempting to use Bank of America QBDT?

Any confirmation or escalation would be appreciated.

If anything, one would think it would be a higher priority for BofA than for Intuit. But it doesn’t seem to be a high priority for anyone. But both companies are definitely involved. And with all the finger-pointing that usually accompanies this.

First time I tried BofA QBDT was when I first was notified of its availability by QB. (After decades as an IT consultant you’d think I’d shy away from being an early adopter!) (Fools rush in etc.) I don’t know when I first saw the notification, but I think at least 6 weeks ago. Maybe 8. Nothing’s changed in all that time. A few 100% reproducible bugs don’t take that long to fix if it’s important to anyone.

I don’t sense that QBDT is a priority for anyone, anymore. Except its remaining users.

Adding as a me too.  BofA says it’s an Intuit problem.  FIX IT.  I have two bank accounts at BofA and two credit cards - one with an employee card. It links the smaller card  -- it doesn’t link the two main bank accounts or the main credit card.  While I can do a QBO, I have to go into the chart of accounts and turn off the electronic link to suck in a different account link.  Then it won’t let me sync/link until I’ve processed all transactions.    Folks this is absolutely unreal that I see folks impacted by this and it’s been going on with no resolution.

The email address shown in the ChatGPT conversation no longer works.  To contact the office of the president, use this link:

Just got off the phone with a very nice supervisor at Intuit (thanks Melissa!).  To clear the 88888 error you must reset your Intuit ID.  This is done by:

Help > Reset Intuit ID Settings > Type “Yes” then OK.

Press F2 and double check your “Company Intuit ID” is null.

Company > My Company > Sign in > Log in using your Intuit credentials

Press F2 and double check your “Company Intuit ID” is a new number.

Now you can download the WebConnect file from BofA and import the transactions through the WebConnect file.

For what it is worth, the Intuit Investigation number for BofA Connectivity Issues is INV-158200.  When you call, ask the support person to add your account to that investigation number so you get notified when it is solved.

There is no reason to ever call BofA on this, since it is not a BofA issue.  It is only an Intuit issue, when BofA switched over to no longer using the old authorization.

Just to reiterate, the issue started (for me at least) on Monday, July 13 2026 when BofA stopped accepting connections using the older method and I had to connect using “Bank of America QBDT”.  After doing all of the things required to reconnect, when you get to Step 3, QB just crashes (closes without any errors showing) and that is it. You must reset the Intuit ID otherwise you will get the 88888 error and not be able to import the WebConnect files manually.  You will also have to clear your Intuit ID before attempting the “Set Up Bank Feeds” again, obviously waiting until Intuit actually fixes the problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for that update.  I did much the same thing this morning, the Reset of the Intuit ID, but when I got the accounts matched and went to proceed, QB crashed on me again.  I got a different investigation # INV-157233.  I hope these different investigations aren’t slowing the down the resolution. I too talked to a helpful young man, Jordan in Virginia.  I just didn’t get the resolution.  I did get added to the INV ticket I was given but I’m not confident about the emails.  Jordan told me to keep checking the updates a couple of times a day and may have to reset the ID when an update loads.  I did have one critical update first thing this morning but obviously it had nothing to do with this issue.  Fingers crossed that this will be resolved soon.

Has anyone experienced this issue with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and Bank of America?

I received a notification saying my Bank of America accounts had been added to QuickBooks, but the status for each account shows NotAdded (OLSU-1034). I've already tried updating the bank feed, but the accounts still aren't added.

Has anyone found the cause of this error or a successful fix? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have pretty much the same issue but a little different than those here using Enterprise v24

  1. unlinked old accounts to move to Bank Of America QBDT
  2. Was able to connect to the server, it listed all of my accounts.
  3. I clicked add all but one (around 8) …. quickbooks crashed with no error
  4. Upon re-opening quickbooks I saw that ONE of the selected account was added to quickbooks and was working.
  5. When I went to re-add the other accounts they were NOT listed in Bank Of America QBDT the only account listed was the one I didn’t select originally
  6. Now within quickbooks I am still able to disable the bank feeds for the one account that was added… all other accounts do not have the bank feeds tab.
  7. If I disable the one account that worked, and I re-open setup bank feeds , only the original never selected account and the one that worked is there, the other 7 are not there.

So in summary it seems like 7 accounts got “lost” when quickbooks crashed.  QB Accounts do not show they have bank feeds to disable and the bank setup portion does not show them to be selectable as if it thinks they are already added to quickbooks.   if anyone has insight to this one it would be appreciated

This is the same issue I have and I think what a lot of others are experiencing.  No one has really laid out the steps leading up to the “crash” quite like you did.

I fought for 6 hours with this thing Saturday but it’s now slightly different, and I assume they are still “working” on the problem, Now after choosing my bank, connecting, authorizing accounts to share it will say connection successful and just leaves me at the page to choose my bank.  I also tried with a backup file before removing any old accounts and it does the same thing, I’m just hoping for a fix soon because it’s really hindering us not to be able to link those 8 accounts.

Reddit thread claims it is a Intuit vs Windows 10 glitch. Upgrade to windows 11 or cease functionality. PLEASE let me know if there is any class action lawsuit against INTUIT. This truly does f$c!! with my sanity. Every 6 months or so I have to pull my hair out trying to workaround INTUIT’s intentional obscolesence of my software product.

It has nothing to do with Windows10.  I am running Windows 11 Pro and have all the same issues others have. I have multiple sets of books, so I tried the first one with the fewest B of A accounts before the deadline because I expected it to not go well.  Then I tried another business set after it became mandatory and it showed that the feed I had was no longer supported. I waited days in between attempts too.  Sometimes there was no crash, it just got hung up in the process and wouldn’t continue.  The worst outcome seemed to be when it LOOKED like it was making it all the way through the steps and then the app just crashed and closed.  So I am manually entering.  What a joy.

Reddit would be dead wrong. Windows 11 25H2.  When you go into BofA it shows Intuit is a linked third party provider.  When you go into Quickbooks you can see the multiple accounts linked and in fact, the two smaller credit cards are syncing just fine. It’s just the main bank account/savings and main CC not working.

I spoke with customer service on 7/24/26. They said there is no resolution presently to this problem Error: Sorry, we’ve run into a problem. QuickBooks is having trouble connecting to Bank of America QBDT. Try again later. This is a temporary issue and will be resolved in a day or two. Try to set up your Bank of America QBDT accounts then. 8888 All accounts associated with this customer ID have been synced with QuickBooks’ bank feeds. If otherwise, contact your financial institution.

They told me the workaround for now is to download the .QBO file Webconnect for QuickBooks 2018 and above directly and import into QB by selecting on the menu Banking> Bank Feeds > Import Web Connect file.

Ok, that’s great, except I have a bank account with BOA that is in my personal name that does not allow the .QBO option to download, and there is no option for my BOA business credit card to download a .QBO file for all my business expenses put on the credit card. This is a massive failure as I now have to manually input all my business expenses on my credit card.

When is Intuit going to fix this? They forced us off Bank of America-NEW and said to use Bank of America- QBDT and it hasn’t worked since 7/6/26 https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/bank-connectivity/refresh-connection-express-web-connect-online-mac/L9ZWdumlx_US_en_US

I am having same problem. I run Qb Desktop Pro and have multiple company files. One one company file I disconnected BoA-New connection, big mistake. I should not have disconnected BoA -New connection. I followed the steps to setup BoA - QBDT connection as given in the email. QB connection screen crashes right after the it says, the connection was successful. I called Intuit few time. Ticket #INV 157233. INTU is going down

This is an absolute disaster with QuickBooks and BOA syncing. We have been down for two weeks now, absolute unacceptable. They said they would reach out to us when it was resolved, its been 6 days since that call. unbelievable, no way do you do an production upgrade without thoroughly testing. There is an awful lot of people extremely angry about this and they that cannot do there jobs efficiently. We have been just adding in everything manually for the time being, what a MESS!!
