Bank of America – QBDT connection crashes after OAuth; error 88888 in affected company file

I’m using QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024 (subscription), Release R21P.

I have multiple company files that use Bank Feeds with Bank of America. QB has prompted me to change my OLB connection from Bank of America - New to Bank of America QBDT. Here is what I’m seeing:

1. In one company file (the one I attempted to migrate):
After disconnecting all accounts from Bank of America - New, I choose Bank of America QBDT as the connection method

OAuth login at Bank of America succeeds

I select the accounts to connect

QuickBooks crashes immediately after the account‑selection step

When I reopen QuickBooks, I try again, and get error 88888:
“All accounts associated with this customer ID have been synced…”

I cannot connect Bank of America QBDT

I also cannot reconnect Bank of America – New

This file is now completely locked out of Bank Feeds

2. In another company file (one I have NOT attempted to migrate):
Bank of America – New still connects normally

It downloads recent transactions without errors

No 88888 message

No crash

No migration attempt was made in this file

3. Clean test file results:
To rule out file corruption, I created a brand‑new test file.

Bank of America – New connects and downloads transactions

Created a 2nd new test file.

Bank of America QBDT still crashes at the same step

Summary of what I’m seeing:
The crash only happens when connecting Bank of America QBDT

The crash happens in both the real file and the clean test file

Other company files that never attempted migration continue to work with Bank of America – New

This suggests the issue is specific to the Bank of America QBDT connection method, not my QuickBooks installation, and not my credentials.

I cannot find any current Community or Support posts acknowledging this behavior.
Are other users seeing the same crash + 88888 lockout when attempting to use Bank of America QBDT?

Any confirmation or escalation would be appreciated.

I have the same issue. Waiting for updates

I’m paying for QB Enterprise and also cannot download via bank feed any of my BOA data. This is absolutely unacceptable!

I have the exact same 88888 error problem with Bank of America QBDT access. Quickbooks things I have my accounts already linked to BOA as I cannot select specific QB accounts in the dialog that links BOA accounts to QB accounts. This is unacceptable. Intuit has been having problems with BOA imports for almost a decade. This is just another bug introduced with a recent update.

I called QB Desktop customer service yesterday. The rep was well aware of this BoA feeds issue and said they are working on the problem. There was no estimated time for a fix.

I called them last week...same answer.

DO BETTER QBDT!!! What a waste of everyone’s time going through all of the steps just to have it crash again and again!  We pay a lot of money to use this software, while losing more and more features!

We received an update on the investigation from Intuit QB Care today, saying they are working on identifying the cause of the problem, and their next update on this issue will be in 2 weeks on Aug. 11.

Yes, I got that, too. They used a lot of words to say, “Nothing’s changed in at least 2 months!”

I also use Quicken and Quicken had to do the same feeds update as QB. The Quicken implementation was a bit glitchy, but I was able to add the new feed successfully.

The QB team should talk to the Quicken team.

I cannot believe the way Intuit is handling this, two weeks with no syncing or any communication in regards to Bank of America & QB’s syncing, this is insane....I just received this after 2 weeks. August 11th is the next update, you’ve got to be joking.

Well, I was told by another user in this thread not to expect an email. So, in that sense--and only in that sense--Intuit has exceeded my expectations.😉

What a waste of time to continue to try to connect my account every few days - with still no fix! With the high cost of this subscription renewal every year, it’s very frustrating to have these issues continue.

@amberdickey, agreed! But it would be frustrating even at the more reasonable QB prices in years that predated QuickBooks Online.

I’m having same issues for a while.  Must have called Intuit and BOA few times about this but they both blame each other.  Have tried to setup the QBDT about 50+ times by now and it is NOT working. Don’t know whether to change bank or software or both as it is ridiculously out of line.

Add me to the group of unhappy clients.  We have around 30 entities that used to be on desktop.  I have moved 25 to IES.  5 are still on desktop and I have lost ALL Bank of America connectivity  on Desktop.  Cleary IES is the focus and not desktop.  We are all being pushed off the desktop platform
