As a cloud-based software, the ability to manage your QuickBooks Online accounts is crucial. By default, company files are automatically deleted 12 months after cancellation to ensure you can continue accessing your data any time you need to. Accounts in your chart of accounts can easily be made inactive at any time, and I'll be happy to show you how.
Keeping an organized chart of accounts goes a long way in simplifying your bookkeeping. You'll always be able to find what you're looking for quickly, and you'll have less clutter in your reports. Making an account inactive just takes a few simple steps (it's best to do this when the account's balance is at 0):
Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.
Find the account you want to delete.
Select the Action ▼ dropdown and select Make inactive.
