I've successfully added Av Gas as a catagory for income but it will not allow me to add Av Gas as an expense catagory. why not?? GRRR

Categorizing your income and expense transactions is important so that you can stay organized. Sometimes, you may want to have the same category for both income and expenses.

It sounds like you're running into the following error:

If that's the case, this is due to the same name being used for an account that already exists in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can simply make a minor change to your category name. For example, you can set it up as an expense category by typing "Av Gas1". As long as the name isn't written exactly the same way as your income category, you should be able to add it to the system without any issues.
